COMPANY OVERVIEW

Our customer, an IT services and consulting company with expertise in open computing advancements, provides support to a major private, non-profit healthcare organization. Our customer’s team includes PhDs, AI, engineering, and computer science experts who work closely with customers to solve computing problems rapidly, efficiently, and cost-effectively.

On behalf of our customer, Integrant provides SysOps and does the following:

  • Manages a high-performance cluster (HPC)
  • Maintains jobs running on the cluster in case of failures
  • Installs new applications required by the users
  • Adds new users to the system
  • Creates virtual machines using different technologies
  • Maintains system upgrades and apply patches
  • and more

On this project, our teams are using technologies such as RedHat operating system, VMware, Linux virtualization tools, Ansible, and will soon be using Terraform and OpenShift.

SysOps case study

CHALLENGE

The customer is a major private, non-profit healthcare organization, requiring 200+ physical machines for one hospital to manage analytics applications. The IT services and consulting company was tasked with creating virtual machines for users, managing the machines, managing the network, and connecting 28 petabytes of shared storage data to these machines.

The healthcare organization also required a monitoring system to ensure that the cluster is always in a healthy state and no machines are running on a drain or non-functional state. In addition, the healthcare organization needed a customized monitoring solution with dashboards to track the performance of the cluster and the applications running on the cluster.

SOLUTION

Our SysOps experts successfully created virtual machines for users, managed the network, and connected shared storage of 28 petabytes of data to these machines. The team also managed the security to ensure that only authorized personnel had access to the machines.

To monitor the cluster and ensure that it was always in a healthy state, the IT services and consulting company built a customized monitoring system with dashboards. The monitoring system tracked the performance of the cluster, the applications running on it, and the jobs running on the GPU machines. The team also managed the jobs running on the cluster, installed new applications, added users to the system, and maintained jobs on the cluster in case of any failure.

RESULTS

Our SysOps and DevOps experts successfully supported in making better decisions as the customized monitoring system with dashboards provided the healthcare organization with valuable insights into the performance of the cluster and the applications running on it and gave them the ability to make better data-driven decisions and utilize things like predictive maintenance, and the need for new hardware.

Our team’s expertise in SysOps and various technologies such as RedHat operating system, VMware, Linux virtualization tools, and Ansible allowed them to support the healthcare organization with HPC and virtual machines effectively and ensured that their needs were met rapidly, efficiently, and cost-effectively.
